Hyperthyroid Symptoms Exposed

Hyperthyroid Symptoms should never be neglected. Consult your doctor before you do anything else.I

n most people, the thyroid makes the perfect amount of 2 hormones, known as T4 and T3. These hormones have important functions in the body and it affects our metabolism. The thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) controls how much T4 and T3 the body makes. Usually, when the thyroid hormones in the body are high, TSH production will stop, which in result, stops the thyroid from making T3 and T4. These thyroid hormones also affect most of the organs in the body, including the heart.

Hyperthyroidism is a medical term that describes the overproduction of thyroid hormones, which can lead to several hypertension symptoms.

The body’s metabolism is increased, meaning that those with hyperthyroidism may feel warmer than others and can lose weight despite eating the same amount or more than usual. In some cases, patients may even gain weight due to an increase appetite and over eating. Other symptoms can include feeling tired near the end of the day, but experience difficulties sleeping. They may feel easily irritated and quickly upset; have trembling hands, or irregular heartbeats. They may also have increased bowel movements and sometimes diarrhea, nervousness, lower concentration levels, and irregular menstrual cycles.

The eyes may also appear puffy and patients may have a characteristic stare because their upper eyelids are elevated.

In more severe cases, symptoms can also include chest pain, muscle weakness, and shortness of breath. Hyperthyroid symptoms tend to occur gradually, so many patients don’t realise their symptoms until they get very severe. In some individuals, symptoms may even be absent! Typically, patients who are over the age of 70 don’t experience typical signs. The symptoms do become more noticeable as the hyperthyroidism becomes more severe though.

Older patients may find that their heart beats irregularly, and heart failure can take place. In very severe hyperthyroidism, one may experience a “thyroid storm”. This condition includes symptoms such as high blood pressure, heart failure, and fever. It can also be accompanied by delirium and confusion.

Some common causes of hyperthyroidism can include excessive intake of thyroid hormones, excessive iodine intake, thyroiditis (thyroid gland inflammation), Grave’s disease, and abnormal secretion of TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone). Grave’s disease is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism. It is an autoimmune disease that causes the patient’s own immune system to attack the thyroid gland. The antibodies cause the thyroid to make more thyroid hormones, resulting in hyperthyroidism.

If you notice the above hyperthyroid symptoms, it is important to see a physician to prevent a thyroid storm.
