Can’t remember where you left your phone or keys? Lately it seems like you’re unable to focus on your work and tasks? No matter how hard you concentrate, you still are forgetting things? Memory loss can happen for many different reasons. However, aging is the most common reason for a reduction in brainpower. Other factors like stress, poor diet, and sleep deprivation could also be reasons. Could a supplement help improve your cognitive function? You could give a supplement like the Procera AVH a try.
What You Need to Know About Procera AVH
Procera is an over the counter supplement that includes natural ingredients used to target memory loss, poor focus, and mood swings that are brought on by mental fatigue, age, poor diet, or sleep loss.
It works using a 3-step process.
- it oxygenates your brain to revitalize your mind
- it protects the brain against free radicals (from stress and toxins)
- it restores diminished neurotransmitters for a sharper brain
You can find a lot of supplements that claim to improve your memory, but do they really work? I decided to do an in-depth review of a popular memory supplement called Procera AVH to see if it is safe to use and if it does what it claims. With the help of this review, you should be able to make an informed decision.
The “AVH” in Procera refers to its 3 main ingredients: Acetyl-l-carnitine, Vinpocetine, and Huperzine A.
- Acetyl-l-carnitine (ALC) is a nutrient used to support memory and mental energy. It’s naturally found in high concentration inside the brain, nerves, muscles, and heart. Research shows that ALC increases the natural production of dopamine and serotonin, thus provides better tolerance to stress. ALC also helps make acetylcholine, the main neurotransmitter needed for memory function.
ALC is a combination of the amino acid L-Carnitine with an acetyl group attached. This makes ALC fat-soluble so that it can cross the blood brain barrier, unlike L-Carnitine alone.
- Huperzine A is made from the extract of Huperzia serrate, a plant that is native to Southeast Asia and India. Traditionally, it was used to treat muscle strains, bruises, and swelling.
Now, it’s promoted as a memory enhancer because it also acts as a cholinesterase inhibitor. What does this mean exactly? It means that it has similar effects on neurotransmitters in the brain as some FDA-approved drugs that are used to treat Alzheimer’s disease. Effects include increased levels of acetylcholine, which is the main neurotransmitter needed for memory function that we discussed earlier.
What’s New in Procera That You Cannot Find in Other Products
The “V” in Procera AVH refers to Vinpocetine. It still is a relatively unknown ingredient but is already being noted as a memory enhancer. When administered in small doses of 15-30mg per day, it has shown to improve visual acuity and improvement in memory.
Vinpocetine is a synthetic chemical that resembles a substance that is found naturally in the periwinkle plant. It’s a powerful memory enhancer that facilitates cerebral metabolism by improving blood flow in the brain, increasing utilization of glucose and oxygen, and increases brain cell ATP (cellular energy) production.
It works by increasing cGMP production, which is a molecule responsible for endothelial nitric oxide release. It also increases the production of norepinephrine. Norepineprhine is a byproduct of dopamine and is partly responsible for increase alertness, vigilance, concentration, and even stress capacity.

What You Might Not Like About Procera
I have to say that Procera is not perfect. Procera contains a blend of AVH, but how much of each is really in each supplement? Well, this is something that the company has not disclosed. I did some research and all I found was that there is an equal amount of Acetyl-l-carnitine, Vinpocetine, and Huperzine A. This is a red flag, because without knowing how much of each ingredient is in the product, we cannot identify how effective it is.
I also feel that more research needs to be done on some of the ingredients in Procera. Like I mentioned earlier, Vinpocetine is still a relatively new ingredient for memory loss. It still requires considerable amount of laboratory work and research. When I did my research, the manufacture’s website’s advertising claims that there are more than a hundred safety and effectiveness studies made. However, there are few double-blind controlled clinical studies that have been published on it. Double-blind controlled clinical studies are considered the gold standard for establishing effectiveness and safety. Without these gold standard studies, we cannot verify the true effectiveness of the ingredient.
